Who are we.

LakeshoreProud TV Is a private facility donated to the community by civic minded citizenry with the objective of nurturing and strengthening a precious, unique, existing community spirit.

The editor in chief is a crusty, forward thinking geezer who recognized the power of internet broadcasting to reach the community with news brewed just for them and bribed, cajoled and shamed a few others to do the heavy lifting for him.

The signal is currently originating from servers in Earthquake Free Montreal, Canada

The chief editor's desk is located under whichever Palm or Pine tree he's sitting.

Contributing stories arrive from everywhere on the planet

It's been said that community spirit started to wane with the arrival of air conditioning.      Previously folks sat on their porch and rocked, neighbours stopped by and had a few words and most everybody knew each other and kept an eye out.      When air conditioning arrived; Folks stayed indoors, nobody walked and a valuable community resource evaporated.

The Lakeshore Community.

The lakeshore community originally consisted of the towns of Mimico, New Toronto and The Village of Long Branch and were a summer retreat for Toronto's wealthy. Mimico and the other lakeshore communities west of the Humber River were eventually linked by a TTC streetcar line that reaches to the Eastern edges of the city.

In 1963 Mimico became one of thirteen cities and towns in the new Metropolitan Toronto.

In 1967, the Town of Mimico merged with two other lakeshore communities (the Town of New Toronto and the Village of Long Branch) and the Township of Etobicoke to form the Borough of Etobicoke, later the City of Etobicoke (1984). The City, in turn, merged (1998) with Metro Toronto's five other municipalities into the new City of Toronto. Today Mimico is connected to Toronto's downtown core by GO train stations at Long Branch and at Royal York Road. Bus and streetcar services provided by the TTC.

The area had been home for some major industries for several decades. Anaconda Brass, Goodyear and Canadian Pittsburg industries to name a few. Campbell's Soup and Castrol are still with us and now a major police training facility.

In earlier days we also had a racetrack and airfield just across the line in the old Toronto Township. (Now part of Mississauga).

Social services are top drawer with L.A.M.P. providing extensive health and social support services to the community.

In September 2007, Toronto Life magazine named Mimico one of five up and coming pockets of Toronto due to gentrification. According to Toronto Life "The gorgeous lake view is one thing. What seals the deal are suburb-sized lots, ball hockey games on quiet avenues and a palpable sense of getting away from it all. Recreation options in Mimico include the Mimico Tennis Club, the Mimico Cruising Club and the Etobicoke Yacht Club. The first phase of the Mimico Linear Park, opening in Spring 2008 will connect three small parks with cobblestone beaches, boardwalks and sand dunes and, once the second phase of the park is completed, connect with Humber Bay Park and the Martin Goodman Trail in the east.

There has always been a strong sense of community along the lakeshore and as the current trends develop; We are looking forward to it continuing to grow and strengthen.
